A couple of years ago Jared probably would have complained about the fact that he had to spend half his night running about the woods watching for vampires. That wasn’t exactly the case now, he was use to the lack of sleep and the demanding life of a wolf. Anyone else though outside the pack would think he was delusional or dealing drugs. Well to be fair, he’d thought the same about Sam in the first place when he’d come back from his little two week hiatus quite a while ago. And it was exactly what his parents were thinking right now, but hey, it got him a new house all to himself. Well he shared it with Kim, so that wasn’t technically all to himself, but he had no complaints at all about living with Kim, they were after all soul mates or at least that was what the imprint was suppose to be and so far he had no doubts.
It was already twelve Friday night, okay technically it just turned into Saturday either way he was going to be patrolling until early in the morning, at least he got to do it with two good friends. Plus, he got the lucky end of the stick, he came in later then everyone else basically and got to go home before most. Just have to love those days, it was gloating rights for a short period of time. Now he had his mind else where, keeping it away from the fact that his body was tired, he hadn’t slept like he usually did in between patrols. Breaking stride for a moment, Jared stretched his legs forward, digging his claws into the earth beneath his paws. After he was finished stretching out his front muscles, he did almost the same pose with his hind quarters which already made him feel ten times better and more awake then before.
Shaking out his fur, Jared picked up pace again glancing around each side of him making sure the area was clear. “Hows it coming on your end Sam?” he asked mentally, after he was back into the groove. Him and Sam had a strong relationship, best friends and now he was beta in the pack. Honestly he hadn’t expected that when Jake left for his own reasons, though he couldn’t see Sam giving it to Paul just for the simple reason of the temper the wolf had, it was so quick to snap. “Looks like tonight might be a quite night bro.” He added as he came up on the area of forest that would soon lead him to the cliffs.

It had been a long night for Sam already, he started at six the evening before and wasn’t off until six that morning. Luckily, he had his two best friends on with him that night; both Paul and Jared, along with Jordan were finishing off patrol. Paul and Brady were off together on the opposite side of La Push, which left him and Jared to cover their current side closest to the boundary line with Jacob’s Boundary Pack.
“Not too bad over here Jay.” He replied to his pack mate as his paws hit the ground faster and faster, his black fur glowing in the moonlight as he ran trying to get closer to Jared in order to meet up. Brady and Paul should be meeting up soon, and then the four of them would finish off together until they had to start breaking off for home. Jared was gone first, then Sam and Paul and Brady were up until seven to finish. The pack still had one more meeting with the boundary pack to make it through, it seemed as though both sides were having a quiet night all the way around.
It seemed on both sides of the lines the wolves were dealing with drunk kids and people trying to start fires where they shouldn’t be, in a few cases they were drunk whilst trying to do so. That never worked out well, and the wolves ended up having to scare them off, and Sam had to walk a couple of ladies back to the town center before being able to finish up his rounds in that sector a few hours back.
“Where you at bro? We should meet up soon.” He questioned his Beta trying to figure it out in his mind as he surveyed his own surroundings to make sure there was no trouble.
((sorry its short. Kinda tired. Next will be better))

Jared was lucky, whenever he had to patrol he either worked with both or one of his best friends; Sam or Paul. It wasn’t that he didn’t look forward to it when he was with another wolf from the pack, but it was just easier on you when you could pair up with someone that you were that close with. The nights didn’t seem to last quite as long as what they really were. “I was hoping that’s what you would say. Hopefully it’ll stay quiet for the rest of the night” Jared told his alpha as he moved forward still, he was coming up on the spot where their territory met with Jacob’s. The division of the land with Jake’s pack was nice, there wasn’t that much less for them to patrol on their land but still it cut back on some of the work load for Sam’s pack. The other thing he liked was that his mind wasn’t shared with a lot of people, though there was still a lot within this pack, but doubling all the thoughts of others in his head could easily cause some headaches at the least.
While he ran, knowing that it would soon be time to meet up with Sam he kept his eyes watching for his alpha. Not exactly an easy task, the giant wolf was almost as black as night, and even with fantastic sight Sam was difficult to see at times. He was also closer to the edge of the forest at this point so he made sure that no drunk kids stumbled off the paths or just off the main road, the woods these days were exactly safe to get lost in. “I’m heading towards the cliffs, where you at?” Jared asked, he knew they should be close to one another, but you couldn’t always run off a schedule, not in this line of work. He swung his head from side to side seeing if there was anything out of the normal before doing the same as Sam.
It was at times, easier to see where the pack was if you saw it through their eyes and tried to piece the puzzle together that way. “You anywhere close to me? ‘Cause I can’t see you.” Jared spoke up as he keep his eyes peeled ahead most of the time unless he heard an noise of sorts off to the side. “You should really think about getting something to make you stand out a bit more. Something white maybe.” Jared said with a laugh as he poked fun at his alpha as he continued to run forward.

The black wolf kept trotting on at a regular pace as he continued to search his surroundings and Jared’s for any idea as to where he would be. “Yeah, hope so.” He commented lightly when the topic of the night’s events came up once again.
Sam headed towards their usual meeting spot hoping that if nothing else they could meet up at the big white rock. It seemed to be hard to miss; it was the only rock almost as big as them that was pure white, the only one like it on all the reservation. On occasion it was a party spot for teenagers, but as of late a lot of them tended to stay away from the forests, hearing that there were some sort of monsters in them. No one really could figure out what the monsters were, just that they were to stay out of them. Only the ‘brave’ went in there, and usually were chased out screaming by the pack. The only people known to wander the forests were the wolves themselves, the pack in human form, and people thought they were crazy.
“Yo, big white rock you ass.” He said with a chuckle as he stood in front of it, his big black form very visible no matter what angle you approached it at. “I think I stand out fine... I have no idea what you’re talking about.” A rather large smirk was plastered on his wolfy face.

Jared slowed himself down a bit, not wanting to over work himself when he was just going to meet up with Sam, a simple trot would get him there on time. Though he was still left in the dark as to where his friend was, but he figured that would become obvious when one of them passed a noticeable landmark. Nodding his head, agreeing with Sam he gave a little huff of a grunt to go along with it.
When he thought he’d have to guess at a random location, Jared saw Sam’s train of thought switch up to the rock. That made things a helluva lot easier then trying to find his alpha somewhere indistinct in the forest. He was sure that finding the way to the rock was almost easy enough that he could do it with his eyes closed. Changing his course of direction just slightly, he pulled himself off the beaten path he seemed to have been running since he began patrol tonight and headed for the large white rock. It was a bit amusing that the only thing in the forest, aside from most of the trees, which rivalled their size, was this abnormally coloured rock. It made things easier on you when trying to meet up with someone like the wolves did a lot throughout the evenings.
Smiling, at least that’s what he was attempting in his wolf form, at Sam’s comment, “Someone’s in a good mood” Jared taunted his friend who usually seemed to be mostly serious during patrols. Coming up on the large rock it wasn’t difficult to see Sam standing beside it, “Of course you think you stand out fine, you don’t have to go looking for you in pure darkness.” He said shaking his head at his alpha as he stopped and took a seat in from of him, resting on his haunches. “You know exactly what I’m talking about; you just refuse to acknowledge it.”

He nodded toward the wolf as he approached finally finding Sam by the rather large landmark. “Now that wasn’t so hard was it?” His smirk still firmly plastered on his dark wolf-like lips as he waited patiently for his best friend to approach.
Slowly Jared got closer and soon seated himself in front of Sam. With this Sam too sat down for a brief moment, though he didn’t want to sit for long as they already wasted much time just meeting up with one another, they should be back on patrol as soon as possible. “Course I’m in a good mood. I’m always in a good mood when I am patrolling.” He caught himself there, that wasn’t going to pass over it knowing full well Jared wouldn’t fall for it. “Okay, so I’m usually happy when I am patrolling. Don’t push it Jay or it will disappear.” He said sternly looking over at the wolf.
He actually for once saw Jared’s point, but he could easily say the same thing with the guys and their blending coats as well. Yes they were gray and white, but that blended well with the sand and rocks that tended to hang around. “Yeah, so I see I’m not the only one who struggles with blending into things then.” He shot back at his friend almost immediately. “You are such an idiot.” He said chuckling lightly as he stood up and started walking. “Come on Jay.” He urged his friend a head

As he stalked forward, Jared gave a responding nod towards his alpha, rolling his eyes as he heard Sam’s thoughts about how he found his way there. “Well it could have been easier but I suppose it wasn’t, difficult” Jared thought as he moved closer to his friend instead of just speaking through a distance. Not that it made any sort of difference since the were using their minds.
Knowing it was going to be a brief meeting and break, Jared still took the opportunity to sit. It didn’t happen often through a patrol that they could sit and not taking advantage of that didn’t seem like a great idea. Jared made a sort of short laugh when Sam mentioned always being in a good mood when he’s patrolling. “That sounds more like it.” Jared said smiling when Sam corrected himself. He did know Sam well enough to know that that statement was more then true and he just left it at that. the night was going good and either of them slipping into a bad mood was something he’d like to avoid.
Jared couldn’t help the smirk that came to his lips when Sam saw his point, almost making him right in a sense, like everyone, he enjoyed being right. Hearing his alpha retort to his own comment Jared shook his head with a laugh. “Don’t try and take the heat off you” He joked before giving a scoff at being called an idiot. “I take offense to that.” He said without the straight face he’d been hoping for. When Sam stood up Jared did the same and stretch for a moment. “Yep, coming.” he said as he walked forward with his friend.

Sam nodded to Jared as he mentally admitted defeat; he loved being right or at least proving himself to be correct, especially around his best friends. He watched at the wolf came closer and seated himself in front of Sam who did the same, a mental and physical break were always well deserved in this line of work, and after all that they had been through and would be going through that night, they needed it to keep their energy and strength up.
When Sam brought up the fact that he thought he was visible enough, and the fact that he usually seemed to like patrols, he was sure it wouldn’t end with his being the final word, not with Jared especially. Jared seemed to always like to have the last word, no matter what the topic or consequence, so Sam usually let him have it to save them from getting into a rather large pointless fight.
He rolled his eyes when Jared ‘took offense’ to being called and idiot and continued on his way down the path listening to him go on more and more about the fact that Sam was black and therefore hard to see in the dark and the forest.
“So, what else is new with you boy? How’s Kim?” he said trying to change the topic, not that he really cared to know much about Kim, he would soon see images flash through his head of the two of them as usual, but the fact was, he was getting bored with the current conversation and needed to start fresh.

Jared rolled his eyes but gave Sam a moment to enjoy the victory of being right within his mind. He wasn’t all that argumentative so he wasn’t going to stand there and try and make himself right. Then again Sam usually happened to be right so arguing was pointless and Jared wasn’t going to take up their time with attempting to. Though he had a different attitude towards the whole topic of Sam’s visibility, he argued his point. It was true, he had a liking for having the last word though it wasn’t something he always realized he was doing. It could be seen as a bad quality but he wasn’t too concerned about the matter.
Shaking his head, Jared trotted a little until he became shoulder to shoulder with Sam as they moved further down the path. Letting the previous conversation topic disappear, Jared’s eyes scanned the tree line closest to him, a force of habit he had while patrolling.
Turning his head to Sam when he heard the question and smiling when asked about Kim, Jared couldn’t help the images that came with a natural thought process but he’d come to be good at keeping certain images from coming the surface while in this form. “She’s good, I think she’s finally settling in the house.” Jared said as they walked. “Nothings really, you know same old same old, though my parents checked in on me the other day, well mu mother did, dad’s still pissed about my life choice.” he said rolling his eyes.

He nodded as Jared told him about Kim, rolling his eyes slightly as Kim popped into both their minds, luckily it wasn’t anything too bad, just a head over heels looking Kim clinging to Jared and him not looking to upset about it. Sam shook his head until the image disappeared.
“Cool. Good to hear that she is settling in okay.” He looked over at his friend as he got level with Sam. He thought it probably helped that Emily was always around in that house trying to help Kim unpack, he had heard that Jared got kicked out one day for being ‘in the way’. Sam couldn’t help but laugh when he heard that.
“So, that’s a bright side then aye bro, your mom’s finally sucking it up and talking to you. Funny though, I would have thought your dad would have sucked it up before her. Dad’s usually are like that, not the ones to hold a grudge when the kid moves out. But hey, what can I say, neither of my parent’s talk to me anymore, I’m a reject, and outcast, what ever you wanna call it.” He shrugged his shoulders lightly as he continued to walk on. “They don’t know what they are missing.” A small smile came to his lips as she spoke.

Once the subject of Kim quickly disappeared from the conversation, Jared did his best to clear his head and thoughts of the girl he loved dearly. It hadn’t been an easy thing to do, learning how to control thoughts like that when he first became as wolf, but the fact that he didn’t want that aspect of his life exposed constantly for everyone to see and knowing they didn’t want to see it, Jared worked on it a bit.
“Yeah, apparently Emily provides better help then me” Jared said with an eye roll as he became shoulder to shoulder with his friend. It didn’t bother him at all though; he hated unpacking and moving shit around when it came to movie. It was a hassle in his mind. And after getting booted from the house while giving assistance Jared wasn’t going to offer it any more.
Jared nodded, “Yeah, I was a bit surprised, kind of awkward too but hey, least she called I suppose.” Jared said with a shrug agreeing with Sam, “I don’t expect anything much from him… we never really clicked that well” he added. Parents were so stupid when it came to the idea of the pack, childish even. “If only they knew what you were really doing, they’d probably be on board real quick.” Jared nodding his head backing up his friends comment.

Sam glanced over at the lighter coloured wolf with a small smile. It really wasn’t hard to cheer him up lately, and just talking and making small talk with his best friend really tended to help once and a while. Sam went from hating his parents and remembering the good old days before the wolves and then got brought back to reality and the fact that life sucks, but that’s what friends were there for. Every once and a while he needed that reality check.
“Yeah, at least you got phone call. Then again, if mine decided to call I’d probably hang up on them. So it’s good that your mom is making the effort, just keep the pack problem’s to yourself and we will all be fine. But you know that already.” He said looking at the floor in front of him as he walked a bit faster now expecting Jared to keep up.
“So, patrol then. What way do you want to take? Left or Right?”

Catching his friend looking over at him from the corner of his eye, Jared looked over at him. This was what was good about patrols; you didn’t have to carry them out fully by yourself. Well since everyone’s minds were connected you weren’t ever really alone which could be highly annoying but having a solid body next to you while running a patrol was nice. Made you seem a bit sane too since you weren’t holding conversations in your mind. Though, this whole process could probably be unbearable if you didn’t have friends to go through it with.
Jared nodded, a phone call was he supposed better then nothing at all from his parents or well mother. “I gave thought to hanging at first.” Jared said, he wasn’t a fan of the lectures parents seemed to give everyone in the pack if they didn’t know what was going on. “Oh yeah. Besides, I’m sure she’d have me committed if I opened my mouth” he said with a slight grin as he looked a head keeping pace with Sam as he picked it up a notch.
“Back to business, right, umm, left is good with me.”

Sam trotted right at his Beta saying a direction he was going to travel. "Yeah, well just make sure you watch it alright Jay." He spoke to his friend in his head as he went, a feeling that never seemed to get old, that nagging feeling of craziness as he talked to people in his head. He did have to admit however, it was much better being a crazy monster when there were more crazy monsters like him around. Being the only one for a while pretty much drove him insane.
"Yep, Back to business as usual" he said with a clearly visable smirk on his face though Jared could no longer see that. " You looking alright over there bro?" he questioned as he picked up his speed increasingly getting quicker until he was at a rather slow run which he carried on all the way down the section of border line.

Jared kept pace with Sam as they moved along through the woods, nodding when Sam spoke. “Yeah no problem, always am.” He said. Making sure to keep the pack business to himself wasn’t ever really an issue seeing as after he finished up with patrols for the day he wasn’t usually in the mood to talk about what had just gone on with anyone. Besides, Kim usually didn’t want to spend their time together talking about his ‘job’. He couldn’t imagine what taking all this on was like for Sam when he was by himself, it was a lot to do and now there were two packs.
“Its always unavoidable.” Jared said in a mock complaint as he headed towards the left officially starting up the patrols again which left him with a pace of a quick jog. “So far so good man, what about you? Nothing freaking showing up?” Jared said as his paws dug into the earth as he jogged through the forest.
