- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Saturdays weren’t the greatest days of the week, at least not when Bella had to work them. The cottage became much too quite and it was definitely not something that Edward was ever going to come accustom too. It was something he’d looked for once and a while, complete and utter silence, free to be with his own thoughts every now and again. But as easy as it sounds, it wasn’t quite like that for Edward. Getting away from people’s thoughts were not exactly that easy to escape unless he emerged himself deep within the woods. That was the main reason why he’d found the meadow that he and Bella still visited occasionally, it was a sanctuary of silence basically when it all came down to it. With the cottage being at the distance it was away from the main house, he didn’t have to seek out a place that would allow him to have just his own thoughts.
After being at the cottage for about an hour and a half after Bella had left for work Edward had nearly driven himself insane since there was nothing much to do, well insane may have been a bit of an exaggeration. Before giving it too much more thought, Edward changed his clothing and then headed towards the family house. It wasn’t that long of a trip there, actually less then five minutes with his speed but Edward wasn’t rushing it. There wasn’t a need for him to rush there anyway, he wasn’t even sure if anyone would be at the house. Though, that wasn’t something that really mattered, coming and going through the house was always common with the family. Besides, Edward would know if it was an inconvenient time for visiting which it didn’t seem to be today. Bounding over the stream that went through their property, Edward was almost at the entrance to the kitchen.
Climbing up the steps and stepping in side, unfortunately the house was silent as well. Pursing his lips as he slipped through the sliding doors, Edward took a look around the kitchen and surrounding rooms that were visible. Despite walking into an empty house, a smile spread over his lips. Until someone showed up, Edward could easily entertain himself the same way he always did at the house when no one was around. With those thoughts, Edward sat himself down in front of the shiny black instrument, one in which he babied. Lifting the case that protected the keys, Edward drifted his fingers over the ebony and ivory without making a sound as he thought over what he wanted to play. Getting his finger placement down Edward picked up a tune from the middle that had been flowing through his mind at the time. As he moved through a few songs, the genre changed and the piano emitted sounds of everything from thirties jazz to soft rock, often switching before a song was completely finished.

It was the weekend and Jasper was allowed to show his face around town. He and Alice were supposed to be away elsewhere living it up at college. Of course it was too dangerous to leave him alone with little Alice for a extended period of time. There was no danger to Alice herself, but she was so little. If he went insane at that moment he required more restraint. Edward the telepath in the family was quite handy when it came to monitoring his thoughts. The split second warning would be enough – and it luckily had been with Bella. Jasper had been so ashamed and angry with himself that day. Why wasn’t it better? Why hadn’t he improved beyond withstanding the scent? It couldn’t be that difficult could it? He was living with six other vampires who managed just fine. It made Jasper feel a little weak, like a burden and that was something he hated. It wasn’t easy going from an asset, granted that asset was nothing more than an obeying killing machine, to a baby brother that required constant monitoring when not it the once or if Bella was around. Jasper didn’t hate Bella. He didn’t not like her either. She made Edward happy and Alice found a wonderful friend. Despite not speaking much he did like through second hand information. It would just be nice not to want to kill her. So Saturdays were the day Alice dragged him away to do some shopping. However much of a fuss he put up it wasn’t something he particularly minded, until it dragged on for about the eight hour or something. Lord knows that girl could shop ‘till she dropped and unfortunately this was one female that could continue forever. You had to admire her though for being so resilient. In the beginning he had tried many tactics to get her to stop. Now he just wandered along, thinking. Occasionally he’d look at something on his own and by now she wouldn’t shush him away from it because she had seen him wear something different. He couldn’t deny her her fun. She was always very happy whilst shopping...or dressing people up...Jasper was glad Bella had came along in that respect. Alice had taken to dressing him up again. It had been disgruntling in the beginning to go from Soldier to dress-up-doll but she had been so adorable that somehow he had managed. It wasn’t all too bad if he was honest. She was happy and he liked that feeling.
Outside his family Jasper didn’t have any friends beyond Peter and Charlotte and a couple of others. They were nomads whom he rarely saw, but when your memories are as sharp and clear as theirs, centuries could pass and it could still feel like yesterday. He of course, had no human friends. It was too dangerous and he didn’t really want any either. Humans shouldn’t be friends with vicious monsters. Perhaps that was his issue when it came to ‘Humans are Friends, not Food’ policy. But Jasper in many ways still saw himself a soldier and fighting off Victoria, Riley and Bree had proven just that. The only scars he liked were the ones that he had gotten from that battle, because they proved he had decided to protect something primarily rather than destroy it. Of course they mingled with the mish mash of other crescents and to a human would be impossible to tell where they were but Jasper did. As sad, or pathetic, or obsessive as that was; Jasper knew exactly were those crescents were. The rest were a symbol of bloodthirsty vengeance, violence, hatred and strife that continued in the South with no thought, no halting. Maria had neglected to inform him of other ways and while Japser resent her for that he did still like her in other respects.
Jasper had feigned that he had something else to do. Alice had been shopping more than a little lately and it would be quite nice not to have to burn on the weekend for a chance. He arrived back at the glorious, open house which he had to get used to. The South had been so dark and oppressing that this house had made Jasper feel very exposed. It did, in a way still do that but he rather liked the open airness now. This vampire was one slow to adjust to change while his mate was fluid as water. As long as she was happy he definitely was and wherever she wanted to be he’d be there with her.
Jasper entered the house, smelling and hearing Edward. The vampire smiled. He rarely got to hear Edward play. He couldn’t say they were the closest siblings – that may be Rosalie, although Emmett was much fun now that he had gotten over the sheer size of the (basically) teddy bear. He loved and liked them all for different reasons. Edward had always just been, more sombre, than anyone else. It could be a little depressing and that had been something Jasper had tried to avoid. In the beginning he feared it would be detrimental to him sticking to the new diet. Turned out he was fine. ”I rarely get to hear you play. Enchanting as usual brother,” Jasper said as he entered the house, knowing Edward would hear him clearly without raising his voice a notch. Such was an advantage of being the undead.
