Bella still couldn’t believe that Edward had sprung the idea of going to New York City for a week with him, but she had never been there and admittedly she had wanted to go there for quite sometime. She was even more excited because it was just going to be the two of them and Alice had predicted that almost every day that they were there, it would be cloudy. Those few days that it wasn’t, well she was sure they could do something else within the hotel they stayed at. Edward hadn’t exactly told her where they would be staying, but she could only hope the place wasn’t all that expensive, it would be silly to waste so much money on a hotel. Honestly, she wasn’t sure what to pack, but she knew for a fact she would not allow Alice to do it for her. Knowing Alice she’d have things Bella would not be caught dead wearing, and while she loved her sister-in-law, she didn’t want to be her Barbie doll.
Bella was okay with traveling by plane, though she knew the trip would be long so she had brought some stuff to entertain her, like magazines and her iPod that Alice had gotten her for this past Christmas. Halfway through the trip however, Bella found herself falling asleep with her head on Edward’s shoulder. A few minutes before they arrived at JFK she was jolted awake by the pilot announcing to prepare for landing. Putting her seat belt on, she looked at Edward with a smile before looking out the window. It was almost 5 in the afternoon and the clouds seemed to be darkening. Sighing, she stretched her legs before she felt the plane starting to land. She didn’t care for this part, and held onto Edward’s hand while the plane landed on the strip. Once they were allowed to get up she unbuckled her seat belt and grabbed her duffel bag from the rack above them, being careful not to hit anyone while she struggled to get a good hold on the heavy bag. Putting it over her shoulder she waited for Edward to exit into the isle and followed in suite.

It had sort of been a spur of the moment, at least the idea of going to NYC for a week, decision, one that he thought Bella would enjoy. He’d made sure to clear it with Carlisle and Esme of course first, and then surprised Bella with the idea. It took a little while for Alice to pin point a good time for the two of them to leave for New York but Edward didn’t think they could get any luckier with the weather then what they were getting this coming week. He’d taken the liberty upon himself to arrange the hotel room and accommodations, hoping that Bella wouldn’t be bothered too much by the price which he didn’t see as unreasonable though they seemed to have different views when it came to money and what it should be spent on. He’d chosen the New York Palace, one of the cheaper rooms that were available within the large hotel. Edward had packed lightly not that he tended to over due it in the first place only bringing the necessities though he held no need for toiletries like most.
Traveling by plane wasn’t something that bothered Edward, it was quicker then any other travel though he could get there quicker then most by car considering the speed at which he drove. It would be a long flight, he knew that so he’d brought along a couple of books, one would be for the trip to and another for the trip home. Currently he’d gone back to reading the American classic novels which were always a favourite and not to mention a good read. While Bella flipped through her magazines and her music Edward read through the pages of Pride and Prejudice as he blocked out the mind numbing thoughts of everyone around him. It was basically a quiet flight, though Edward usually had no problem focusing on what he was doing, even as Bella fell asleep on his shoulder which was something he didn’t mind at all. Though he couldn’t help a but of a chuckle when she was startled by the pilot’s announcement. Replacing his seatbelt he returned Bella’s smile as they plan made its decent towards the runway. While they were landing Edward glanced around the plane feigning the need to stretch much like everyone else on the plane. Feeling Bella’s fingers wrap around his hand he clasped her hand and looked over at her with a smile.
When they were completely immobile Edward got up from his seat and removed his bag while Bella did the same, tossing it carefully over his shoulder and followed behind Bella, into the terminal, exiting the plane.

Bella was of course excited to be going somewhere with Edward. This would be her first time across the country in about two years, and of course that had her both excited and anxious. She was comforted by the fact that Edward was going though. She wondered where Edward had booked the hotel they would be staying at and if Alice had anything to do with that. Knowing them, she would probably be in the most expensive room of the place. Hopefully they didn't do that, because Edward knew she didn't like that sort of thing. As long as she was with him, it didn't matter. Of course Edward didn't need to worry about how much he packed, as he was less likely to make a mess of himself from falling or something. Knowing her, she'd be tripping over everywhere. Especially since there was likely to be ice. Edward also didn't need toiletries because he didn't really need to use the bathroom, unless he felt like taking a shower.
Bella had wondered if driving with him would've been faster, or if this was the faster option. Still, she didn't question it and had made sure to pack stuff that would keep her from getting bored during the long flight. Though this wasn't the longest flight she had been on...the one from Italy had been the longest and she tried not to think too much on that memory. In fact she did her best to block out that half a year out of her mind. With the exception of a few things like growing closer to Jacob and finding out that he was a shape-shifter. Bella had made sure that Edward had something as well so he didn't get bored. Once in a while she would rest her head against his shoulder and would read over his shoulder the book he had brought with him. He got through books so quickly, but she wasn't really surprised anymore. She wondered if Edward had it memorized, and again she wouldn't be surprised. She did have Withering Heights memorized from reading it so many times. Honestly, Bella hadn't intended to go to sleep, especially on Edward. However when she awoke with a jolt it took her a moment to remember where she was and then she heard Edward chuckle a little and she turned to glare at him before smiling. When she felt his fingers lace around her own she couldn't help but smile wider.
As they got off the plane she made sure she had everything and was quick to roll up her iPod before shoving it inside her duffel bag. Holding onto Edward's hand in fear of getting lost she gently moved past people as she exited the plane and entered the terminal. Her eyes went wide when she realized how many people there were gathering around the baggage claim. For once she was glad her suitcase stood out, and it was something Alice had gotten her. It was a white suitcase with black polka dots. When she spotted it she made her way over with Edward to grab it, grunting as she lifted the heavy object off the conveyor belt. "I think Alice stuffed some stuff in here." Bella accused half-heartily. Honestly, she wouldn't be surprised. Alice was just sneaky like that, and while she loved her she very much doubted she would wear it. "See your suitcase?" She asked Edward as she tried to remember which one he had. There was so many plain black ones, it was rather ridiculous.

Edward had done a bit of travelling, that was something you couldn’t avoid when you lived his sort of ‘lifestyle’. He never got tired of it though, especially when it was travelling for a vacation or something similar like he was doing now with Bella. Edward had a bit of a discussion with Alice over hotel rooms when he was trying to figure out which one was best. He knew better then to pick the most expensive one though Alice had thought the style would suit them nicely, he’d opted for the cheaper one in the New York Palace. It didn’t seem like something that would be too fancy for Bella’s taste though he could avoid talking about the price of the room for a little bit. Even though it wasn’t necessary for him to pack toiletries there was a small bag in his suitcase that would simply be placed on the sink in the bathroom just to make it appear as though he were more normal then what he was.
Flying didn’t bother Edward, it was quick, much quicker then what travel had been in the past. Though he did seem to do it a lot recently in the last year or two, twice he’d spent twenty hours on a plane. Only two though had the flights been under happy circumstances, they also happened to be the shortest flight. The trip to and from Italy though was a part of his past that he wasn’t very willing to relive any time soon, nor did he think he’d ever want to think about it. Though he couldn’t complain about flying, there was nothing he could do to speed it up, but he wasn’t sure how long he would last being driven around by others while they were in New York. Just in case he had talked with Jasper and had gotten himself some identification that would allow him to rent a car if need be, it would provide proof that he was old enough to rent one even if his appearance lied.
As they moved off the plane Edward stuck the nearly finished book into an easy access pouch of his carry on bag, it was the only thing he’d had out during the flight. Edward kept a firm hold on Bella’s hand, though making sure that it wasn’t too firm, he didn’t need the two of them getting separated. Making his way with Bella through the throng of people Edward did his best not to bump into anyone too often. His shirt wasn’t of thick material and he didn’t feel the need to take the chance of someone noticing his unnaturally cool skin. As they drew closer to the baggage claim Edward sifted through thoughts of those closest to the claim, he was lazily looking for his luggage waiting to see if anyone spotted it. As Bella struggled with her luggage he smiled, “I wouldn’t put it past her, she has to have her hand in everything” Edward said rolling his eyes slightly, knowing his sister all too well. Catching a glimpse of his out suitcase Edward nodded at her question “Yes, it’s almost within in reach” Edward said turning his head in the direction the suitcase would be coming in. It was rather old in style, not feeling the need to buy a newer style since it had rarely any sort of wear and tear. After picking it up and placing it in the hand with the other one he turned back to her, “Ready?” he inquired.

Bella didn't mind traveling, it was moving that she hated. Though for the most part she couldn't remember as she was young when her mother and her moved from California to Phoenix. Bella hadn't gone to many places for vacations, unless you counted the two weeks each summer that she had gone to Forks to stay with her father. So this was a bit different for Bella, though she had gone to an island that Carlisle had brought for Esme for her honeymoon with Edward. That had been the best month of her life. Bella was rather curious and honestly a bit worried about where they would be staying. She had the feeling it would be somewhere lavish, and she would probably tell Edward something along the lines of him not spending so much money on said room. Though knowing Edward, it would probably be a suite. She was dreading finding out where they were staying now that she thought about it more. She didn't like it when Edward and his family spent so much money on her. Even though this was for Edward too...
Bella vaguely remembered arriving at Isle Esme, as she had been half asleep when she exited the plane. However she did remember Edward driving them on the boat to the Island. It was so amusing at how at ease Edward was with driving a boat, what area did he not have expertise in? She wondered if Edward was going to drive them around the city, or if they would be taking a taxi or taking the subway. Honestly, she did want to see what the subways looked like in person, when she told her mother she would be going to New York she had teasingly told her to watch out for the rats and of course that did freak out Bella a little bit. That couldn't be true though, could it? Shuddering at the thought she could only hope she didn't see one. She wondered if Edward would even want to take the subway to get around, or if he'd much rather just drive them around. She knew that taxi's were expensive and she had heard that they didn't exactly obey traffic laws. She'd rather not die if she could avoid it, thank you very much.
Bella made sure she held onto Edward's hand tightly, afraid of getting separated from him with so many people attempting to get off the plane at once. Losing her balance when someone moved their bag onto their shoulder she luckily balanced herself out before she could fall over. How embarrassing would THAT be? His grip on her hand was not uncomfortable at all, if anything it just made her hand cold but she would get over it. Bella noticed how Edward was dressed and was about to suggest he put a coat on, as other's might become suspicious of the way he was dressed. Not that he could become cold or hot, due to him having really no body temperature. Noticing how some people stared at them as they waited for the luggage, she quickly felt her cheeks go red. Most of them were looking at Edward though, and honestly she couldn't blame them, he was very gorgeous and she always thought she didn't deserve him. Even if he said otherwise. As she lifted off her luggage she saw Edward smile at her struggling. "It isn't funny." She said breathlessly. "That is true, I wish she would stop sometimes." She said with a sigh as she lived up the handle on her main suitcase. When he explained that his own luggage was almost within reach she looked around for it before she saw him reach over to grab it. "Show off." She said in a teasing tone as he easily lifted it from the conveyor belt with one hand. "Yes." She said when he asked if she was ready. "Are we going to the hotel that you told me nothing about?" She asked curiously with a slightly bitter tone to her voice, though it would be hard to stay mad at him. "Are you going to be driving us there?" She asked as she began to move towards the exit. Or at least she thought it was the exit.

Unlike with most, Edward had a different feeling about moving, it was strange to be attached to one place for longer then a few years since the family had to move every seven or eight years. Mostly he’d kept his distance to avoid discomfort when it was necessary that he move on with the family. Forks hadn’t exactly allowed him to do so this time around, though he was quite happy with how things had turned out. Though he was in a way looking forward to living in a new area, of course starting over once again in high school was not the highlight of moving. They’d of course have to work Bella into the situation, since he had it set in his mind that she was still going to be human when they had to move, even if she was dead set against it. But until they had to even think about that they could simply take little trips like these to break up the stay in the damp and dreary Forks. He was hoping that Bella would enjoy her time here, much like she had on their last trip to Isle Esme. Of course nothing could top that trip, their month long honeymoon. He’d been very careful not to spill any details about the hotel, afraid that she’d be swayed to change her mind or something if she had been given information that would allow her to look further into the hotel. He hoped that she’d be able to overlook the price which wasn’t bad in his eyes, while they were site seeing throughout the city.
Edward was rather glad that Carlisle and Esme had offered up the use of Isle Esme for him and Bella for the honeymoon. He couldn’t have picked out a better place for the two of them to stay; he’d given a bit of input when Carlisle had decided on the idea of giving Esme an island. It was slightly complicated to get there, having to change planes a couple of times and then the boat which the family used whenever they went. You’d be amazed at all the different vehicles that the family of vampires could actually drive. Though for the most part he wouldn’t be driving this week, except getting them from the airport to the hotel, he didn’t exactly want to be stuffed into a cab right after getting off the plane. He probably wouldn’t have a problem with the subways, well most people seemed to know to keep their difference from him anyway so he doubted he’d have to worry too much. Just to make sure, Edward would be sure to not leave the hotel suite without a jacket or a thick sweater; it would keep them from feeling his cool skin. A taxi though he wasn’t sure he could deal with, driving with someone else at the wheel was usually not something that went over well with Edward, and he wasn’t about to allow them to take advantage of them not being from the city either.
Getting mixed up in a group of people was an easy task under normal circumstances, it would be even worse at the airport and Edward wouldn’t allow that to happen to Bella. Not that he would ever lose sight or track of her like that. Feeling her stumble slightly Edward glanced at the source that had knocked her off tilter, though glancing away nearly as quick. He didn’t allow himself to worry about how cold his hand would be on hers, he couldn’t let go of her until they were in a much thinner crowd. Knowing that it would probably be cold outside to most people Edward would have to pull a sweater or jacket from his luggage or look as if he were affected by the air as he walked outside. He’d keep that on his mind until they were in the car. Edward, being rather use to the stares, Edward could easily ignore them and rarely if ever contributed the source being his good looks, figuring it to be his vampire attributes. “I’ve lived with her longer then you’d thing tolerable and she never lets up” Edward said, of course he loved his sister and was basically teasing though it was truth, she didn’t let up. “Would you like some help?” he asked her, figuring she’d turn him down but he was unable not to offer his help, it was part of his personality. Laughing again for a moment as she called him a show off he walked with her away from the baggage claim.
“Me too” he agreed as they walked towards the car rental place. “Yes that’s exactly the hotel that we will be staying at.” he nodded with a smile guessing by her tone that she would have liked some details, “Yes, I’m driving us there, but we can use other means of transport throughout the week, I just don’t want us stuck in rush hour traffic all night” Edward said coming up to the enterprise rental desk. Moving to make little small talk with the woman behind the desk Edward had the keys quicker then she probably would have liked him to. Turning back to Bella he smiled, “The cars waiting for us just outside the exit” he said nodding towards a wall that was almost all made up of sliding doors. Guiding Bella through the thinned out crowed he helped her put her luggage in the trunk of the Cadillac DTS and then held the door open for her before getting in on his own side and pulling out into the mess of traffic, not something he planned on staying in for too long. It wasn’t long before Edward was navigating his way out of the airport, passing the terminals until he was north bound on the service road and weaving his way in and out of cars hoping that he wasn’t making Bella worry too much about his driving.

Bella figured with all of the moving Edward and his family had done over the years, that he was used to it all by now. She wondered when they would be moving next, and where. Sadly, she knew it wouldn't be somewhere like Phoenix and yes, even after all of this time Bella missed the sun. It wasn't as bad as when she first arrived in Forks, but she still loved the dry heat and sun that Phoenix had, and not the wet and cloudy area that was Forks, Washington. Bella did not feel like going back to High School anytime soon, honestly. Once was enough for her. She still couldn't understand how the younger Cullen's could stand to be in High School over, and over again. Then again, if they wanted to stay in a certain town for a longer period of time, they did have to blend in and Bella did understand that. Still, she'd much rather not go to High School, at least not right now. While Edward may think she was going to stay human forever, Bella had no intention of being this way forever. At some point, she would become a vampire whether Edward liked it or not. She knew she couldn't wait until she was older, because she did not want to look older than he did. Even though he had been 17 when he was changed, and she was yet to be changed and twenty, she did not feel like looking older than him. Yes, Esme had been changed when she looked older than Carlisle, but Bella didn't want to look older than Edward, maybe that was selfish of her. When Bella had been told that she would be going to New York City, of course she had been excited and she had a feeling she would enjoy her stay there immensely. The only trip the two of them had taken together before this one was to Isle Esme, and of course that was the best trip of hers by far. For more than one reason, and one particular reason she did not discuss with her family, both the Cullen's and her parents. Of course it frustrated Bella to no end that Edward wasn't giving her any details about where they would be staying, and neither was Alice when she asked her. All she would tell her is that she would like it. That wasn't enough for Bella though, and that only worried her because she didn't want Edward spending a bunch of money on a place they would only be staying a week. It would be silly for him to do that.
When Edward had explained to her that Carlisle had brought this island for Esme, she thought it was the sweetest thing and the way Esme had decorated it was beautiful. Esme certainly had an eye for making things look gorgeous, like the cottage that she and the others had fixed up for her and Edward to live at. Bella would aways be grateful for what she and the other's had done for her, especially for letting her into the family with open arms. Except for Rosalie that was, but she hoped that eventually Rosalie would be fine with her. The beautiful blonde had opened up to her once, explaining her past and what led her to this immortal life. She felt bad for her of course, but her story wasn't really going to change her mind on wanting to become a vampire. She was sure that hurt Rosalie and she did feel badly for that, but it wasn't her decision to make. Bella had been asleep during most of the trip there, so how they got there was a bit fuzzy. It most certainly was a hard place to remember to get to and not easy to find. Though maybe that was the whole point. So that no one could disturb them. Bella was hoping they wouldn't be taking a cab, because she had the feeling Edward would hate it if someone else was driving. He didn't care for her driving, so she very much doubted that he'd like it if a stranger was.
Bella had somehow gotten away from Jasper once, when she needed to get to the ballet studio by herself. She was still surprised today that she had gotten away with it, because vampire's had such heightened senses which made it very difficult to get past them undetected. Bella hadn't noticed Edward looking over at the person who had accidentally caused Bella to lose her balance, as she was too busy trying to keep a hold on Edward's hand and move away from the crowd of people. Sighing in relief when they got away from most of the people, Bella was quick to get her luggage just so they could get away from most of the people. Bella really felt like just going to sleep right now, but first she wanted to get something to eat. She felt bad for Edward though, because surely he would not find their first night to be the most thrilling if Bella was asleep. She considered taking some coffee, but she knew that would just end badly. She tended to get an upset stomach and a headache from coffee. When he spoke up about Alice she sighed softly, "I know." She said in understanding before he asked her if she would like some help with her luggage. "No, I got it." She said stubbornly, though surely Edward had expected this type of answer from her. She glared somewhat jokingly when he laughed at her calling him a show off. Following him as he lead them in a different direction from the exit she looked at him with confusion.
That was until she saw the sign for car rentals. Figures he would want to drive, and honestly Bella felt a lot more comfortable with that than taking a taxi. A slight pout came to her lips when he gave her no details about the hotel, sighing in annoyance she then listened to him explain how they would be getting around. "Okay." She said in agreement before dropping her duffel bag to the floor with a grunt. That thing was killing her shoulder and she rubbed the effected shoulder tenderly for a moment when Edward had his attention on the girl that was confirming everything. When he turned back to her she couldn't help but smile when he did, "Okay." She said before bending down to pick up her duffel bag again and sliding it onto her shoulder before she followed him out to the exit. Looking at the car he had chosen she shook her head in slight amusement, of course he would choose such a car. Thanking him when he took her luggage from her and put it in the trunk she smiled gently when he held the door open for her. "You're too much sometimes." She said before leaning up to kiss him on the lips briefly, she then slid into the car and closed the door. As he pulled out and into traffic she let out a groan of annoyance. "Should've expected this." She muttered before she reached over to put the heat on as it was a bit cold in the car. "So, how long until we get to this secret hotel?" She asked curiously looking over at him as they sped past other cars. For once, she was glad that he was speeding because she just wanted to get her luggage in their room and lay down for a bit. Her legs were stiff from the small leg room on the plane and she was overall tired. Her stomach growled impatiently and her cheeks flushed at just how loud it was, she was sure Edward would hear it. Sighing she moved to look out the window, only to see headlights and the road speeding past them. She was very curious to find out where they would be staying, and it was getting to her. She hated surprises and Edward knew that. Chewing on her fingernails she leaned her head against the window and stared ahead, trying to stay awake so she didn't fall asleep, again. Glancing at the clock she saw it was only 5:44, and she sighed in annoyance, she couldn't go to sleep yet. It was still too early. Plus, knowing Edward he'd want to take them out to dinner, even though she would be the only one eating.

The subject of moving hadn’t come up at all recently within his family which was a bit rare since Carlisle would soon look too young to pass for the age at which he was telling people. Where they went didn’t really bother him and on the subject of weather, well you couldn’t get any worse a climate then that of Forks. He figured they’d stick to the north and either head to the Midwest or even the East if they wanted to move that far. Edward was just hoping that that they wouldn’t be intending to visit Denali for a little while, though he was sure the family’s stay there during his separation from Bella did them in for a while. Unfortunately for Bella they wouldn’t be going anywhere that averaged more sunny days then cloudy though she seemed to be adapting better to Forks then she had a couple of years a go. Of course their moving would all depend on whether Bella was still human or a vampire, a subject the two of them still didn’t see eye to eye on though they had both budged a certain amount within the last couple of years. Yes, Edward did promise that he’d change her after they married but even though she’d put it off a bit longer, he would probably keep good on his promise to her. Though, it wasn’t as if she didn’t have other options to chose from when it came to changing her, he already knew Carlisle would and Alice too if she could find the strength to keep from draining Bella of all her blood. He actually trusted Carlisle much more then he did Alice and even himself, Carlisle having done it many times over, though he hated seeing the agony that his father went through every time he’d done it. This trip to New York City was of course something that Edward was looking forward; any time spent with Bella was time he was looking forward to. The last time they’d gotten to be alone like this was in fact their trip to Isle Esme, and some genuine alone time was needed every now and again when your family consisted of several vampires. Even if they didn’t live in the main Cullen house, it was difficult to avoid spending a bulk amount of your time with his family, not that he didn’t love them, he did, it was just everyone just needed away time. The way in which Bella was received into the family was much better then you’d expect, though Rosalie could have been a bit more supportive but Edward didn’t usually expect much from her in this specific area.
Navigating throughout the airport wasn’t a difficult task for Edward; his being a vampire aided him in many aspects such as this one. But he took his time, not wanting to lose Bella at all during the shuffle of people and even worse, he didn’t want to have her stumble in anyway if he walked too fast through the people. Edward had no intention of speaking to the person who’d bumped into Bella; he just felt the need to glance at the guy. He was just as happy to be out of the crowd of people as Bella was though it was probably for different reasons. Though he felt no thirst the smell of all those humans in close quarters in a warm terminal didn’t help with keeping his imagination at bay, natural vampire thoughts. Edward though was quicker to dismiss them then what he figured most would be. Baggage claim hadn’t taken as long as what it could have, their luggage seemed to come out rather quickly and they could easily move towards leaving the airport. “Fortunately you do get use to her quickly” he said with a smile which widened a bit as she refused his help with her luggage, just like he knew she would. “I didn’t think you’d take my help” he said as he lead her towards the direction of the car rental place. Catching her look of confusion Edward chuckled softly, “The final stop before we head to the hotel, promise” he said before dropping his bag at Enterprise so he could fill out whatever was necessary for paper work.
Edward was not about to let some stranger drive the two of them around, at least not on their first day in the city. It had been a very long time since Edward had been on this side of the country for a scenic visit and well he enjoyed driving on a busy road like you would find coming from the airport. Besides, Edward wasn’t exactly the most comfortable person in the company of a stranger and figured it would be best to let both him and Bella be comfortable on the ride to the hotel. That was why he’d arranged for the car rental a week ago, making sure they had the car that he wanted. Though he couldn’t help but think that this would be the ideal condition for his Aston Martin, but it wasn’t at all practical to have a car moved over here, so he’d settled with the Cadillac. Once they were done with Enterprise Edward basically made a path for Bella to follow him through as he moved towards the exit doors. Catching her shaking her head he looked at her, a questioning look on his features, “What?” he asked wondering what she was thinking, but that was nothing new for him. At her comment when he opened the door Edward smiled at her, “Old habits die hard” he said with a bit of a smirk before leaning down to make it easier for her to give him the brief kiss. The traffic didn’t at all worry him, he’d get them out ahead of most before they even reached the main road. “At the most an hour, but I’m hoping to shave off at least twenty minutes of that once we get out of the airport.” Edward said feeling the heat swirl around the interior of the car, along with her scent which brought a smile to his face. Reaching forward once they were at a steady speed of ninety (for now) Edward flipped through some radio stations as they flew through traffic, looking for something that played a bit of everything, though he kept the volume at a low volume so it wasn’t deafening. Hearing her stomach growl Edward glanced over at her. “Your hungry. Did you want to stop somewhere and get a meal? I’m sorry it slipped my mind, I should have asked before leaving the airport.” Edward said. Since their marriage Edward had rarely missed remembering a meal of hers, the flight caused it to slip his mind. Moving his eyes back to the road shortly after asking her, Edward knew she wasn’t fond of him not watching where he was going.
Picking his speed up once they reached the freeway, it was much easier for Edward to weave his way in and out of cars. Most of the time it was without the other cars really even noticing; and by the time one did he was already far out of there site. Around six o’clock they were about fifteen minutes away from the hotel, Edward took another look over at Bella to see her glancing out the window while she was chewing on her nails. “We’re only fifteen minutes away. We’re staying in Midtown” Edward said breaking the silence that had formed in the car , he figured giving her a bit more information would put her at a bit more ease, she wasn’t exactly one for surprise. “I think you’ll like the view that’s offered, the concierge said the forty-seventh floor offers a very nice view.” Edward offered up before looking back through the windshield so that he could more easily navigate through the streets of midtown. He couldn’t help but wonder what sort of information she would draw from what he’d told her already. Though she wouldn’t have much time to speculate, Edward could see the hotel coming on as he drove more ‘responsibly’ through the streets since they were in a more public place. The vast hotel wasn’t difficult to spot if you knew what you were looking for. Pulling up to the temporary parking area, it wasn’t long before a valet showed up at Bella’s door and Edward was stepping out of the driver’s side heading towards the trunk to retrieve the luggage before handing the key over the valet and waiting for Bella before heading further into the hotel.

Of course Bell preferred the sun, compared to all of the rain and clouds that there was in Forks. However, she knew it was necessary for Edward and his family, and sooner rather than later, her as well when she was turned into a vampire. Though the exact date had not been decided, she had a feeling it wasn't too long off before she was too a vampire. Bella was aware that at some point they would have to move, after all it would look odd for them to be here for so many years and seemingly not age. It was a sad fact when you were immortal, but if it meant being with Edward forever it was worth moving from place to place. Though of course she would miss the few friends she had made here, and especially her parents and Jacob. Those last three would be the hardest to say goodbye to, as they all held a special place in her heart. To say goodbye to them would be harder than anything else she would ever have to do, and she was aware of that. Though she had first suggested that Carlisle change her, Bella began to realize that it should really be Edward to change her. After all she wanted to be with him forever and if he could resist consuming her blood once, he'd be able to do it again, right? Of course Bella was looking forward to this trip mainly because they would have some much needed time to themselves. Sure they lived with one another in the woods, away from the other's. However, on almost a daily basis they were around the rest of their family. So to go all the way across to the country was a nice get away. Though it would never be able to compare to going to Isle Esme.
Of course navigating through an airport wouldn't be difficult for Edward, considering he had many things that could easily navigate him through this airport. Like reading other's thoughts to see where to go, or his sense of smell possibly? She was grateful that he didn't walk too fast, she was already tripping over her own feet as it were. Bella was worried Edward would make a big deal of the little bump in she had with the stranger, but surprisingly he didn't say anything and she was relieved he hadn't. Sometimes he could be too over protective, it was rather ridiculous. It wasn't like she couldn't handle her own situations. "I've known her for three years, I'm still waiting to get used to her." Bella said, slightly joking. Though it still amazed her at times how much Alice could get her way with just giving that puppy dog look she had used on her to persuade her to do her wedding for her. Alice sure knew how to manipulate people into doing things she wanted from them. Bella couldn't help but smile a little when he did, admitting that he knew she wouldn't ask for his help. "I would hope you would, since you should know me by now." Bella said teasingly. "Okay." She said softly when he explained that this would be their last stop before they went to this mysterious hotel that they were staying at. Watching him interact with the woman behind the counter she smiled at him before they left to go outside.
While Edward might enjoy riding on these busy roads, Bella certainly didn't. Then again, she wasn't the fastest driver, so she couldn't be talking. She knew Edward probably wanted to get out of here as fast as he could so they could go to the hotel, hence one of the reasons he probably chose to drive instead of letting some stranger drive them to their hotel. Bella was antsy to get some information, it was slowly killing her. She hated surprises and he knew that, and it bugged her greatly. When he asked what she was shaking her head about she laughed softly. "Never mind, forget it." She murmured before she moved towards the car. Smiling when he teasingly said to her that old habits die hard, emphasizing on the word old she couldn't help but laugh a little before her lips briefly touched his own. Of course that brief contact sent chills down her spine and her heart pounded in her chest. It was amazing how she could still get this reaction from just kissing him. "Okay." Bella said when he explained how long it would probably take to get to the hotel, and that he'd probably be able to cut some time down. With the way he drove, she didn't doubt that they'd get there much earlier than most would. An hour though...so where did that mean they were going? Ugh the suspense was killing her, she wished he would just tell her already or that she could read his mind to know where they were going. Sadly she knew both were unlikely. Following his pale hand with her eyes as he reached forward to scan through the radio, Bella then looked out the window. The music on the station he had picked wasn't bad, and it was playing softly as he kept the volume on the low side. Surely he could hear it very well, heck even if it was on mute he'd probably be able to hear it considering his hearing was much more clear than a humans was. Blushing when she saw him look over at her after her stomach betrayed her and growled loudly in protest to not getting any food in a long time she hesitantly looked over at him. "It's fine, I can just wait until we get to this mysterious hotel." She said dismissively. "It's fine Edward, don't worry about it." Bella said softly when he apologized for having to forget that she ate. It's not like he had to baby her, she knew when it was time to eat, her stomach made sure of it.
As they reached what seemed to reach the freeway, Edward picked up speed greatly and rushed past so many cars that they probably didn't even have time to react to the way he was speeding before he was way past them. Closing her eyes briefly as she leaned her head against the window, she absently chewed on her barely there finger nails while keeping her eyes closed. She was rather tired at the moment. However she snapped her eyes open when he explained that they would be arriving in about fifteen minutes and that they would be staying in midtown. Was this Manhattan? She couldn't be sure, but it looked like a city, tall buildings, over crowding....His hint nave go indication to her as to where they were staying. As he explained that she would like the view, especially since they were going to be on the forty-seventh floor....Back up for a second, had he just said the 47th floor? Her eyes went wide and she looked over at him. "Are we staying in a castle or something?" she asked, surprised by how high their room would be. As he started to slow down, she looked up to see a huge hotel coming into her view and her eyes went wide with shock and surprise. "We're staying there?" She asked in surprise before she gasped as they got closer and the hotel became more clear. It clearly was expensive, and that upset Bella, but she couldn't get past how beautiful it was. She barely noticed that they had pulled in before someone tapped on her window and she jumped in surprise to see someone dressed formally there. Blushing she moved to get out of the car before glaring at Edward as he came towards her with their luggage. She continued to stare at Edward as he handed the valet the key to the car. "I told you not to spend so much money on a hotel." She complained but obediently followed him into the lobby, dragging her luggage behind her as she did. She certainly didn't look like she belonged in such an establishment, though Edward easily pulled the look off of having money. Meanwhile she was dressed in a black jacket, in old jeans and her plaid shirt that was covered by the jacket she wore. She also had on her old beaten up, but comfy converse sneakers. Her hair probably looked like a mess but she couldn't tell and her stomach growled again, though she was sure no one heard it except for Edward. She felt so out of place and it embarrassed her. Why couldn't he have chosen something a bit more simple? Sighing she continued to make her way to the front desk, as they had to check in.

Driving was definitely one of Edward’s favourite pass times, he would do it regularly before his meeting Bella to give him some piece of mind. Literally that was what he had used driving for, it made his mind reading gift rather pleasant, and less intrusive since the most he spent in someone’s head was a mere couple of seconds since he was usually zipping past them. It was why he couldn’t handle being driven by a cabby right now, he’d been cooped up in a plane with more humans then what was normal for him recently and their thoughts were bombarding, or at least the dense humming sound he’d reduced them too was. And when he wanted a clear head nothing was better then speeding down a freeway with Bella sitting beside him, though there were times he’d wanted access to her mind. Even now as they drove in a comfortable silence he couldn’t help but wonder what was going on in her mind but he wouldn’t let himself dwell on that for too long, it would annoy him to no end then.
Edward knew that Bella was not one for surprises of any kind, and he hadn’t sprung many of those on her, especially in party form, one mishap was enough for his liking. Though no matter how much she hated them she never complained like you would expect from some of the other humans and vampires around, which of course said something about her character and personality. Though he was a bit surprised that she hadn’t mentioned much about the hotel, surely she knew that he was bound to have reserved a room for them in a fine hotel which she’d advised him not to do. Then again arguing with him about that sort of thing was not something that got you very far, especially if he wanted to do something. When she mentioned not to worry about her stomach stating that she was hungry he didn’t want to push it too far, and they weren’t that far out from the hotel. “Okay.” he said glancing over at her, being sure not to have his eyes off the road too much, more for her peace of mind. “We, er, you can see if there is anything at the hotel that you like, if not we can go out” Edward said, though he didn’t eat he couldn’t not eat at all while they stayed at the hotel if they ordered in, that would look too suspicious and Edward wasn’t about to let her go out for food on her own either.
Once they had hit freeway it didn’t take long for Edward to get them into Manhattan, it was a rather easy stretch of high way to drive and there had been enough space between each car that he passed to make it easier on him, not that it would have been difficult in the first place. Though he hinted to her where they were going, his smile showed that he was just the little be glad that she hadn’t gotten much from it. Though she caught on a bit once he mentioned their floor. “A castle? No. The name relates it more to a palace.” Edward said, though this time his golden eyes stayed on the road before him, knowing it wouldn’t be long until they reached the hotel itself and he had to take a bit of caution while driving in the city, more cars in closer quarters. He nodded at her question, “Yes, we’re staying here” he said before putting the car in park and got ready to hand the keys over to the valet. He gave a soft chuckle when the valet had surprised her, smiling as he stepped out. “Its not that much money, Bella” Edward said rather dismissively like this was nothing out of the ordinary, which it wasn’t really the Cullen family didn’t worry much about money. Though you didn’t really have to when you had a vampire that saw the future in the family.
When they got to the lobby, and stepped inside Edward dropped back a couple of steps and walked beside Bella up to the concierge’s desk. Though the hotel had a fancy look to it, Edward hadn’t dressed himself up in anything other then casual attire, matching Bella as best as he could with his vampire appeal. He didn’t want to waste too much time with chit chat and quickly gave the man behind the desk his name and confirmed the reservation, and of course paying with his credit card since cash was frowned upon in most places like this. Moments after they were registered a bellhop that had been waiting appeared at their side and Edward helped load the luggage on to the cart before taking Bella’s hand and walking with her behind the bellhop.
The elevator ride wasn’t exactly uncomfortable though he couldn’t exactly say that he was upset to see that they arrived on their floor. Allowing Bella off the elevator before him they continued on path behind the bellhop until they reached their room. Slipping in the room key, Edward opened the door for Bella and then followed her in with the bellhop coming in last. Thanking him and slipping him the expected tip, Edward turned to Bella when they were alone, walking up to her. “So… what do you think?” he asked with a bit of caution having a feeling that she would think it was a bit on the expensive side.

Bella enjoyed driving, though she enjoyed driving her truck more than she did with the car Edward had given her a year or so ago when her truck just happened to die. She still blamed Edward for that, even if he would never admit it she knew he had killed it. While he may've not liked her truck, she had immensely and thought it had great personality. She hated when he or anyone else would joke about her car and honestly she could get rather defensive over it. Bella was glad that they hadn't taken a cab and that Edward was driving, though she was a bit scared because of how busy the streets were and how fast he was driving. Even if this was a normal speed for him, she wasn't sure how he could control the car at the speed he was going. Heck the car she had currently was hard enough to drive even when you just lightly pressed on the gas. Of course she doubted that Edward would have much trouble driving it himself. Bella knew that Edward wished at times that he could hear her thoughts, and these days she wished she just could let him hear her thoughts so he wouldn't be so frustrated with her abnormal brain.
Bella was not the only one in her family who hated surprises, so did her father, Charlie. There were things that she and Charlie had in common and then in some ways she was like her mother. Of course she didn't really complain because she hated to whine, but she would make it clear that she hated surprises and she was sure Edward knew how much she was frustrated right now that he wasn't given her much information. Of course she was aware that he had booked a room for them, and she wondered if Alice had helped him out by looking into the future to see which Bella would like the best. The bad thing about her and Edward getting into an argument was that Bella was just as stubborn as Edward was, which could definitely be a bad thing. Plus he had his way of getting things, as he knew exactly how to persuade her. She was glad he hadn't pushed her into eating right now, though her stomach was making a loud request for food. "Okay." She said in agreement when he gave her suggestions of where they could eat. Though right now she just wanted to lay down. She felt bad at times when they went out to eat and how much Edward was repulsed by the smell of human food, though he pretended not to be.
Right now, Bella was glad for Edward's speed when it came to driving because she could just tell a traffic jam was starting to form and Bella would rather not be in one right now. When he explained to her that they were not staying at a castle though the name relates to a palace she tried to think of what it could be. However, she didn't have much time to react when she saw it. Her jaw dropped and she looked to Edward in surprise. This had to be the biggest hotel she had ever seen. Groaning when it really hit her that they were staying here she pressed her palm against her face. "I told you not to spend so much money on a hotel." She complained. She heard Edward chuckle when the valet surprised her and when she came up next to him again and explained to her that it wasn't much money she laughed softly. "Could've fooled me." Bella muttered as she looked up, having to crane her head back rather painfully to see up to the top. Sighing she shook her head before following Edward obediently into the lobby.
Holding his hand as they went up to the concierge desk she allowed him to talk as she looked around, feeling rather embarrassed with the way she was dressed compared to most of the people that were staying here. She noticed a group of teenagers walking past but not before looking at Edward. Her face went warm when she saw them look over to her, his companion and looking rather disappointed. Blushing deeply Bella let her head fall and she stared at her feet before looking up at Edward after he had finished speaking and got the key. Letting go of his hand as he helped load the luggage onto the car she laced her fingers in his own when he took her hand and followed behind the bellhop at his side.
When they got inside the elevator she leaned against the metal wall, still holding onto Edward's hand and letting her gaze move around briefly. She noticed the bellhop staring at her when she met his gaze, but he just smiled before looking away. Blushing, Bella moved her gaze away from him and stared at Edward's sleeve absentmindedly. To her, the ride was very uncomfortable and she was eager to get out of here. Sighing in relief when the doors opened she allowed the bellhop to exit first before she followed behind him. When Edward slid the card through the slot and opened the door Bella was in absolute awe and it showed on her face. She hadn't even realized that the bellhop was now gone nor that Edward was next to her until he spoke up. "Well um...it's..." She stammered over her words before muttering that it was really pretty. She hated to admit that it was really nice because she still wished he hadn't spent so much money on it. "Though I wish you hadn't spent so much money on it." She added after a moment, looking up at him with a small frown.

This was one of few times that Bella hadn’t made a comment about the way he was driving, the first time he’d driven her, home from Seattle, she’d nearly had a panic attack. Of course he hadn’t a clue why since he never gave a second thought about how fast he was going it was that natural. He could already hear the thoughts of annoyed drives as they found themselves drawing closer to traffic jams, he could not handle one of those at the moment. While she was she was thinking over the hotel Edward watched the road, he wasn’t sure he would want to meet her gaze right away when she figured out where they were staying, she wouldn’t be that happy for a little while but he figured the natural charm of the hotel would win her over, at least he hoped. His suspicion was proved right when he heard her groan and he took the chance and glanced over at her. “I know, and I didn’t spend that much money on it” Edward said, and he did, it wasn’t the most expensive hotel that he could have put them in. When they were standing next to one another, he smiled at her when she gave a small laugh, “It looks more expensive then what it is.” Edward said, lying just a bit, though he was sure she’d see right though that. He watched her for a moment, checking out the hotel, before he walked with her into the hobby.
Like most other times Edward was rather oblivious to people that were running amuck around him, he didn’t need to pay attention when he had their thoughts prodding him. He had become rather accustom to ignoring humans, and had generally no problem with not acknowledging them though at times it was not something they enjoyed. With his hand still in hers, he spoke with the man behind the counter, not noticing the group of teenagers. At least not until he felt the extra heat from Bella’s cheeks, looking around for the source he found the teenagers, one of the females attempted a warm smile which was not returned. Getting the key he placed it in the pockets of his jeans, and helped the bellhop before taking her hand again. Before they moved towards the elevator, Edward moved himself a bit closer to her and placed a quick kiss on her temple.
Elevators were not something that Edward was too fond of, especially when there was a good size group of people in them. It was one of the very few times he could be made to feel uncomfortable. For most of the ride Edward kept his golden gaze trained forward, casually resting his body against the back of the elevator, of course placing it there very carefully. Catching her gaze move to his arm out of the corner of his eye Edward shuffled sideways slightly, wrapping his arm around her for bulk of the ride. He was just as relieved when the doors opened as Bella and the bellhop seemed to be, following their bellhop out of the elevator like Bella did. When they were alone Edward watched Bella, taking in her reaction since it was the only way to know somewhat what her thoughts were. He smiled when she said that it was really nice, which he was hoping she would think. He chuckled softly when she mentioned again when she mentioned the money, moving behind her and wrapping his arms around her gently. “Really, its not that much money Bella. It is the cheapest they offer.” he told her.

Bella remembered freaking out when she saw how fast he was driving, sometimes even now she still got a bit worried with how fast he went. Then again he had a lot better control over the car than she would or any other human as a vampires reflexes were a lot sharper than any humans. Of course Bella could not hear the thoughts of the other drivers and their frustrations about the traffic jams and such, but she was well aware that they were not happy and some made it rather obvious by honking their horns. As if that would make it go any faster. Sighing, Bella ran her fingers through her hair and looked over at Edward briefly to see him staring ahead. When she had looked back to see the hotel she was a bit upset with him, because she had told him not to spend so much money on a hotel room. "Sure you didn't." She said with a sigh as he told her that he hadn't spent that much money on it. She looked over to him to see him smiling at her. "Mmhm." She sounded, not believing him when he told her that it looked more expensive than it really is. She could feel his eyes on her as she looked up at the hotel and she moved her gaze to him briefly before shaking her head again and taking hold of his hand.
Keeping close to Edward as he checked in, Bella moved her gaze around, trying to look at everything around in this large lobby. She still couldn't believe that he had paid so much for a room, but it was too late now. Leaning some of her weight on Edward as he spoke to the man behind the desk, who seemed to be gathering their information. Bella noticed Edward turn to look at the small group of teenagers. Watching one of them give him a flirtatious smile, she was slightly pleased when Edward didn't smile at her in return. Watching as he took the key from the man and slid it into his back pocket she was quick to re-take his hand. Smiling up at him after he placed a kiss against her temple she leaned her head against his arm briefly before walking towards the elevator with him.
Bella remembered her mother being terrified of elevators, which made it difficult at times but she did her best to avoid them when she was with her mother. For whatever reason she was terrified of them, even though she never had had a bad experience with them. Of course Bella always felt uncomfortable in elevators, especially when she was by herself just because the silence was so awkward and uncomfortable. Smiling up at Edward when he wrapped an arm around her she leaned against the side of his chest for the rest of the ride. Waiting for the bellhop to walk past she followed after him. Bella could feel his eyes on her as she looked around the room in awe. She saw him from the corner of her eye smile at him when she admitted to it being really nice. Smiling when he wrapped his arms gently around her she leaned into him and placed her hands on top of his. She loved him so much, she couldn't even put into words how much she did. "Fine." She said with a sigh, caving in. Moving around in his arms she wrapped her arms around the back of his neck and leaned up to kiss him briefly on the lips. "I love you." She whispered to him, opening her eyes as she did.

Edward had laughed the first time she’d scolded him on his driving, he’d felt there were worse things about him that she should be afraid of. There were times though he probably went fast then what he should but that tended to be when a strong emotion got the best of him, but his driving was still just as flawless as it ever was. Edward could hear, verbally and silently, the protests of some of the drivers he passed that were quick enough to get themselves out of the traffic jam that was forming. It was slightly amusing to him, but he didn’t let it show though the horns were rather annoying. Though he was watching the road a head of him Edward saw more then any of the other humans on the road. Every once and a while his eyes would dart from one side of the road to the other, taking in all that he saw, you couldn’t be too safe when you were driving at this speed in the middle of rush hour. He stole a glance a Bella, figuring the sight of the hotel was not something she would have liked, but it was non-refundable so there wasn’t much that she could really do but voice her distain about the choice. “Well I didn’t in my my opinion.” he said which probably didn’t help his case at all. He figured she wouldn’t believe him so he just gave his shoulders a shrug, When she shook her head in his direction he smiled despite it, “I’m quite certain it will grow on you” Edward told her, fully believing what he’d told her.
Checking into the hotel didn’t take too long, he’d actually expected a bit of resistance once the concierge took in his age, most were a bit reluctant to hand over something like keys to a hotel room or a very expensive car to a seventeen year old. Of course Edward always walked away with what he wanted, as Bella liked to put it he could ‘dazzle’ people into getting what he wanted out of the. Not that he’d done it that often. Though he didn’t really notice when she leaned her weight on him, he had to make an effort for the human behind the counter and shifted slightly on his feet. Aside from just looking at the group of teenagers, Edward made no point of making it seem like he saw them or the smile directed at him. His fingers eagerly wrapped back around Bella’s hand when she retook his returning her smile with one of his own as he walked with her.
The elevator was the best way of travelling from floor to floor in this hotel, though Edward wouldn’t really have any difficulty with taking the stairs to the forty-seventh floor, but he figured that Bella would highly object to that. He wasn’t fond of the wait that came with elevators, whether it was waiting for it arrive or waiting for you to arrive at your floor, it could be highly annoying, especially if people decided they wanted to try and establish small talk. Edward returned her smile after placing his arm around her, feeling more relaxed and comfortable with her closer to him. He was ultimately relieved when Bella stated that she liked the room, not wanting to have her staying in a room that she would hate, of course Alice was a great help when he wanted to pick out things like this that he wasn’t quite sure about. When she placed her hands over top of his own, Edward pulled her closer into him resting his head lightly to the side of her own, smiling wider when she gave him, “Thank you” he said with a small chuckle. Loosing his arms, making it easier for her to move in his arms. Lifting her up just slightly as she stretched to kiss him. “I love you too” Edward told her before placing another kiss on her lips.

It was probably a good thing Edward was driving rather than her, because for one she hated traffic jams, second they would be out here for ever if it was her driving. Plus, she had no idea where they were going, though he obviously did. Running her fingers through her hair again she moved to rub her tired eyes, thinking it would make her more awake. She didn't want to go to sleep so early, so she hoped after she ate she'd get a second wind. Of course as soon as she saw the hotel, well she was wide awake then. "In your opinion sure, but money is no object for you." She whispered softly, still in awe. She wasn't sure she could say anything in response to him saying he had a good feeling that it would grown on her. Maybe so, but she still couldn't believe they were staying here. It was gorgeous, she had to admit that. Though not out loud, not yet anyway.
Bella knew how frustrating it could be for Edward to check into a hotel and such, because he looked so young. She supposed that would be a downfall when she was turned, though she would look a bit older than Edward. Which would probably bother her a bit, but in reality, Edward was a lot older than she was. It was true that Edward could easily persuade someone into doing something he wanted, and he had done it to her a few times. She hated when he did that to her, because he did it with such ease too. He knew exactly how to make her do his bidding. Bella peered over at the teenagers one more time to see them walking away, looking over their shoulder once more as if expecting Edward to change his mind. She couldn't help but grin, knowing Edward wanted her and not those girls. Even though they were rather pretty compared to her. Looking up at him, she felt her smile grow when he smiled wider than before. Keeping close to him she followed him over to the elevator.
It was a good thing that Edward didn't make her climb all those flights of stairs, while it may do nothing to him she would be so out of breath. As it was she wasn't in the best shape, she never had been the athletic type, for obvious reasons. She too hated going in elevators, simply because of the small talk. Sure if she found a topic interesting she would talk, but people didn't really come up to speak to her. Except that was, on her first day of school in Forks. That had been so odd and uncomfortable for Bella, and she was glad that was behind her now. She was sure that Edward was glad to hear that she did like the place, and she would be lying if she said she hated it. She couldn't help but grin when he pulled her closer against his body. She was very glad that they were alone now. For the first time in about 12 hours or so. "You're welcome." She told him when he thanked her for finally giving in. She inhaled sharply when he lifted her up a bit off the ground she kept her arms around him tightly. She couldn't help but smile when he told her that he loved her as well and her heart began to pound in her chest as he kissed her on the lips again. Pressing her lips against his own she ran her fingers through his messy hair before they tangled up in his hair. Hesitantly she pulled away and looked over her shoulder. "Oh look a bed." She said in fake surprise before she looked back to him with a grin.
